About Anglo American's South African coal
Anglo American has a long history in South African coal, and for decades its collieries were a mainstay of the country's thermal-coal supply, feeding domestic power generation and export markets alike.
In 2021 Anglo American demerged its South African thermal coal operations into a separate listed business, Thungela Resources. Thungela now runs the seven collieries, Goedehoop, Greenside, Kleinkopje, Landau, New Denmark, Isibonelo and New Vaal, most of them in Mpumalanga's coalfields.
